Side event - Deep dive into the V Tower project

This year, we're giving you the opportunity to meet the Veolia team and dive into one of their flagship projects in Prague: the V Tower! The side event includes a presentation and Q&A with Veolia project teams, followed by a visit of the project's site.

V Tower

The V Tower is the tallest residential building in the Czech Republic, standing 30 floors high and housing 130 apartments. Beyond its architectural distinction, it represents a flagship project in sustainable urban energy.

Veolia secured a 15 years contract starting in 2017 for energy supply, O&M of the heat pumps and heat source investments. The building offers a wide range of new technologies such as the use of a heat pump solution extracting heat from the low-potential heat of the drinking water supply line for heating, cooling and hot water. In the second phase of the project, the use of heat from the sewer line with the help of the heat pump had been introduced. Currently, 43% of the building's heat demand is supplied by the heat pump in combination with 57% of the heat is supplied by the district heating network.

This hybrid system reduces COโ‚‚ emissions by 281 tonnes per year.

The V Tower was designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification, reflecting the client's ambition to create an environment that would maximally rely upon local resources (including water and energy management). Therefore, the Veolia solution addressed both these objectives. The project overcame numerous technical and regulatory challenges, from complex connections to the water infrastructure, to developing new technical standards and pricing schemes for energy recovery.

The construction of the V Tower began in June 2015 and was completed at the end of 2017. V-Tower meets the most stringent requirements for the environment, living comfort and operational efficiency, and was the first residential project in Europe to receive LEEd Platinum Certification.

V Tower also holds two prestigious awards in the International Property Awards competition. The project won all 5 stars in the "Residential high-rise development" category and even reached the world finals among the eight best buildings in the world in the "Residential high-rise architecture" category.
